Mercer Companies, Inc. is a New York Corporation organized in 1978 by William Bantz. Since that time, Mercer has developed or co-developed in excess of 1,500 units of HUD projects, developed six completed hydroelectric projects, and rehabilitated three commercial office buildings in downtown Albany. Mercer has developed and financed projects totaling more than $190 million and is engaged in real estate and alternative energy developments for its own account.

Mercer combines its knowledge of development, regulatory, and environmental matters with site specific technology to develop successful projects. The firm is equipped to handle projects from start to finish, including financing, design, construction, operation, and management.

Housing
Mercer has developed or acted as consultant for over $100 million in senior and multi-family housing in New York and New Jersey.

Office Renovation and Development
Since 1983, Mercer has completed the adaptive renovation of three historic buildings in downtown Albany: 330 Broadway, 324 Broadway and 11 Pruyn Street. These three buildings formed the beginning of E-Comm Square, an urban commercial office park with connecting atrium and outdoor plaza.

Mercer is developing the rest of E-Comm Square, a signature project that has SEQR approval from the City of Albany for four office towers, an infill office building, parking structures for 1300 cars, a hotel, and a two block park. This project will provide premium Class A office and retail space to attract and retain companies in downtown Albany. This project also provides a Downtown environment with excellent highway access, views of the Hudson River, and significant parking availability.

Power Generation Projects
Since 1981, Mercer has developed or co-developed and currently manages numerous hydroelectric facilities in New York State:

  • Mt. Ida, a 2,900 kW facility, in Troy.
  • Fort Miller, a 5,000 kW facility, in Washington County.
  • Valley Falls, a 2,500 kW facility, in Rensselaer County.
  • Glen Park, a 32,000 kW facility, in Watertown.
  • Stillwater Reservoir, a 2,000 kW facility, in Herkimer County.
  • Fourth Branch, a 3,500 kW facility, in Waterford, New York.
  • Kings Falls, a 1,636 kW facility in Denmark, New York.
  • Alice Falls, a 2,250 kW facility on the Ausable River.

The Box Canyon Dam Hydroelectric facility (5 MW) on the Sacramento River in California was co-developed by Mercer but has since been sold.
